My husband always marvels at the way women "do" friendships:
"You meet at a party and the next thing you know you're having
lunch and you're best friends."
He doesn't understand the way women can make friends so quickly or
why we need to talk on the phone once or twice a week. Or why we
haven't truly experienced something until we've shared it with our
girlfriends.
He's not the only one. Many of my friends lament that their
husbands don't have a wide circle of friends or don't make plans with
the ones they have.
Sandy Greenberg didn't have that problem. Her husband, Stan, had
so many friends, so many social engagements, she sometimes begged him
