Thousands of Dayton items go to historical society

DAYTON - Retired antique dealer James Worley Davis was "Uncle Jim" to many of his neighbors in the St. Anne's Hill Historic District of East Dayton. He "enlivened many parties with his stories, his wicked sense of humor and ability to make a play on words," said a neighbor, Linda Caron.

When he died Aug. 28 at age 83, the nearly bald, raspy-voiced Davis gifted the entire region with a legacy to the Montgomery County Historical Society.

Davis' collection of 5,000 Dayton photos, products, advertising, maps and historical objects was given to the society for use in research and exhibits. Brian Hackett, society director, said they have seen ...
