McDERMOTT - It was one special running back paying homage to
another.
As soon as Emmitt Smith - the future Hall of Famer whose 154
rushing touchdowns are the most in NFL history - saw Jake Porter step
onto the stage to receive his recent ESPY Award, he stood and began
to applaud the Ohio kid whose lone high school score remains one of
the most powerful touchdown runs anyone has ever seen.
Barry Bonds stood, too, and so did Bill Walton and actor Ben
Stiller. Soon, the rest of the Hollywood crowd of athletes and movie
stars was on its feet for a rousing standing ovation - a salute they
again gave Jake when he said his thanks.
