DAYTON - Violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, who performs at Gilly's on
Wednesday, is a musician with an unparalleled approach to his
instrument. A performer who knows few boundaries, he has delved into
everything from jazz fusion and acoustic jazz to progressive rock and
world music during his 43 year-career as a professional musician.
Ponty was born in France in 1942 and was only 21 years old when he
released his solo debut Jazz Long Playing (Philips Records).
Although the idea of a lead violinist in a small jazz combo was
unheard-of at the time, he was immediately recognized as a unique
