Two Ears Better Than None; Growing Corn Successfully in Small Spaces

The promiscuous sex life and freewheeling growing habits of corn make the lanky grass an idiosyncratic candidate for the genteel confines of a small garden.

Yet American gardeners continue to grow sweet corn for those delectable ears, ranking it seventh in the hit parade of top 10 home-grown vegetables, according a survey by the National Gardening Association. Successful backyard corn growers have mastered the tricks of cultivating the giant grass to its maximum production in small spaces.
