Traditionally, deviled eggs - made with your mother's or
grandmother's recipe - are comfort food, the first thing to disappear
at a potluck party.
But cooks can't resist tinkering with a recipe, even a winner.
Enter the new book Deviled Eggs by Debbie Moose (Harvard Common,
$12.95), a pretty little book with recipes that extend the cook's
repertoire in every direction.
They are uptown, quirky concoctions that use contemporary
flavorings - pesto sauce or Cajun spices or habanero pepper sauce.
Friends who acted as tasters here gave approval to several batches of
them.
If you try them this season, be sure to let people know they are
not your mama's deviled eggs.
