Easy Goer and Sunday Silence were supposed to have had a dramatic
confrontation in the Kentucky Derby, but it turned into an
inconclusive dud because of the sloppy track at Churchill Downs.
Nobody knew for sure whether Sunday Silence won because he was the
better horse or because his main rival couldn't handle the mud.
At 5:33 p.m. Saturday, the country's best 3-year-olds finally
will get to face each other under clear skies and over a fast track.
Their rematch in the Preakness (WJLA-TV-7, 4:30 p.m.) has stimulated
ardent debate about their merits, and will draw a crowd of more than
80,000 to Pimlico.
Yet Easy Goer vs. Sunday Silence II might wind up as tinged with
ambiguities as much as ...
