Poll shows kids need to get to bed earlier

Fourteen years as a first-grade teacher showed Krista Stump the importance of students having a good night's rest.

"Once in a while I'd have a little one just fall asleep," said Stump, now principal of Woodland Heights Elementary School in Greenville.

She would like to see more emphasis placed on good sleep habits, beyond teachers talking about it to children before they take achievement tests once or twice a year.

"It's really a good idea for every day of school," she said. "Every day is important. Every day is building toward those tests."
