OK, let's talk about this "moral values" thing. Every body else
is.
In the week plus after the election, a new conventional wisdom set
in: It's moral values, stupid. Moral issues -- as defined by
conservatives -- swung the election, this instantaneous analysis
holds. The returns show that cultural conservatism is ascendant, that
the election was all about getting the "evangelicals" to the polls,
and that the Democrats had better take note.
This view seems to stem from three basic facts: (1) The
Republicans won. (2) Karl Rove had said for years that he was going
to get the evangelical vote out, and proceeded to work that cause
