Ben Johnson's physician, saying he had received threats against
his family, yesterday refused to identify the East German athlete he
has said provided the steroids he injected into Johnson weeks before
the Olympics.
"When the security of my wife and children comes in, I have to
draw the line," Jamie Astaphan said on the fifth day of his
appearance before a Canadian panel looking into drugs and athletes.
"At this point in time, I don't want to say who it was," Astaphan
said, adding he was aware the refusal harmed the credibility of his
account.
"It's a matter of security for yourself and your family; is that
what you're saying?" asked Justice Charles Dubin, who is conducting
the inquiry.
