Article: Boy, 12, may be out over BB gun Xenia schools say boy violated rule, cite zero tolerance

XENIA -- An expulsion hearing will be held Monday for a 12-year- old Central Middle School student accused of violating a zero- tolerance policy by bringing a BB gun on school grounds.

The boy's situation frustrated some Greene County residents. They say the potential punishment -- up to an expulsion of a year -- is too strict.

"It's typical," said Linda Beach of Jamestown. "There's craziness in the logic."

But Jeff Lewis, superintendent of Xenia schools, said weapons on school grounds cannot be tolerated and the hearing and recommendation for expulsion is required.
