Article: The big stink: Dead drum floating all over Lake Erie

During a fishing foray on the Western Basin of Lake Erie on Wednesday, I was talking with my boat mates, blabbing away as usual, when suddenly I felt a huge tug on my line. My pole bent almost down to the water.

"Fish on!"

"This is a big one!" I exclaimed.

So, hoping it was a sizable walleye, I fought and fought and the fish pulled and pulled. What a fight!

Charter captain Darryl Blair grabbed his net and had it poised in the water, ready to scoop.

I was tense, reeling hard, pulling the pole up. Then, as if someone let the air out of my balloon, I saw the "monster."

It was a big sheephead.
