Millions spent in Greene County In 2005, builders spent a record $474 million on commercial and residential construction in the area.

XENIA -- The U.S. economy might have sagged in 2005, but residential and commercial development in Greene County reached new heights as developers pumped millions of dollars into projects, officials said.

Builders spent a record $474 million on commercial and residential construction last year -- $140 million more than they did in 2004 -- according to the county's 2005 Report to the Community. While construction revenue fluctuated the past decade, it surpassed $300 million for the first time in 2002, according to the report.

However, total construction revenue the first five months of 2006 was down $17,000 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures. But ...
