Article: El Nio's back, but not always to blame

El Nio is back. I cringe every time I hear this, because of the great misunderstanding that El Nio brings with it. Yes, sometime this winter we will see California houses sliding into the Pacific Ocean, and others that are destroyed by mudslides. Every time a strong winter storm brings heavy rain to the Golden State, El Nio is blamed. If a tornado outbreak hits the Deep South next spring, someone will blame El Nio.

However, heavy rains in California and tornadoes in the South happen during El Nios, La Nias (the opposite of El Nio), and years with neither.
