DAYTON -- The Dayton City Commission began sifting though the resumes of 11 city manager applicants Wednesday, including two local candidates.

City Commissioner Dean Lovelace said the top four or five could be brought in for interviews by mid-September, with a final selection made by Oct. 1.

"That's a good goal," he said.

In July, the commissioners extended the application deadline to attract a larger pool of candidates.

It had been hoped a replacement for former City Manager Jim Dinneen could have been found by the end of June.

The applicants, all men, hail from across the country including New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Michigan, Iowa, Colorado, Virginia and Missouri.
