Although their friendship has endured 20 years, University of
Florida football coach Urban Meyer figures Earle Bruce's longtime
ties to Ohio State make it impossible for him to switch allegiances
for the national title game. But that hasn't stopped Meyer's wife
from trying.
While her husband predicted Bruce will be decked out in scarlet
and gray with the rest of the Buckeye faithful in Glendale, Ariz., on
Monday night, Shelley Meyer couldn't resist making a desperate pitch
for the Gators.
"She called me up and said, 'Coach, could you at least wear Gator
underwear and support us a little bit?' " Bruce recalled while
chortling. "She said, 'No one needs to see it.' "
