When Joe Humphreys moved to Glen Burnie, Md., from West Virginia
30 years ago, the town seemed a glamorous place compared to the small
coal mining town of his boyhood.
Moving to the northern Anne Arundel County community to teach at
Glen Burnie High School, Humphreys found himself within 45 minutes of
Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis.
"I marveled at all the opportunities here, being able to drive
to a ball game, the museums and plays," he said. "The ocean is
nearby. It was a different world from where I came from," said
Humphreys, now a guidance counselor at the school.
