After the arrival of a baby, parents anticipate and always
remember the utterance of their child's first word. Will it be "mama"
or "dada" or an unexpected word?
For the parents of David R. Brigham, the new director and CEO of
the Dayton Art Institute, his first word must have been a surprise.
"My first word was 'clock," Brigham revealed with a chuckle while
visiting Dayton in June, prior to beginning his position at the DAI
scheduled for Aug. 20.
It wasn't a totally unexpected word, though, since his father was
an avid collector and restorer of antique and collectible mantle
clocks. The home in which Brigham began life was full of ticking
