FRENCH LICK, Ind. -- In its heyday, the famous and the infamous made their way here to partake of the water and gambling. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the comedic Marx brothers, the musical Cole Porter and gangster Al Capone knew that this southern Indiana town was the place to go for a cure -- spiritual, financial and whatever else ailed them.

Today, a $382-million restoration project has transformed two historic hotels into a resort and casino destination that will include, when completed, three championship golf courses, a full- service spa, salon and health club, an indoor/outdoor pool complex and fitness center, numerous dining options and an 84,000-square- foot casino.
