Cooler heads have prevailed in Major League Baseball this summer. Players are donning a different look, a new stain-resistant polyester fabric model. It's the first major overhaul of the baseball cap since 1954.

The new-age cap is designed to make players as cool as possible in July and August and to keep sweat off the eyes.

Gone will be those stinky, grungy, crusty white salt rings. No longer will sweat stream down a player's face. The new model reduces stains, odor, shrinkage and fading.

New Era Cap Co. of Buffalo N.Y., had a two-year off-field testing period prior to this season.
