Article: Nats' brat pack more like a slack pack

I READ with interest Ruth Laugesen's article on the woes of National's 2002 election campaign (August 4). The Nat's so-called "brat pack", we were told, had a big part in the running of the disastrous campaign.

Who bestowed the Americanism "brat pack" on this group? I suspect they claimed it for themselves. Americans define "brat pack" as "a selection of successful young hopefuls". Hang on. These guys are a bunch of middle-aged males and all losers, having now gone down two elections in a row.
