NO Diana Pryde. Institute of Chartered Accountants chief executive. THE EXTREMELY significant and ill-considered decision to abandon the Privy Council is the result of poor policy process and means losing the services of an internationally respected, independent court.

While previous administrations have occasionally mentioned the issue, a lack of real thought was revealed when all of the proposed options put forward by the government in 2001 were resoundingly rejected.
