NO: Easter for many New Zealanders is an important time for family
and friends to gather together and this is the main reason why the
Council of Trade Unions opposes further easing of Easter Sunday
trading restrictions.
Easter Sunday is one of only 3 1/2 days of the year that most
shops cannot open.
The other prohibited trading days are Good Friday, Christmas Day
and Anzac Day morning.
Those who advocated changing shop trading hours in 1990 managed to
get shops open on 51 out of 52 Sundays. Now they want the last
remaining Sunday as well.
Shop trading hours is a difficult issue. It's about recognising
