BIG BROTHER does exist - and he could be reading your text messages.

Telecom has admitted storing millions of its customers' text messages for up to two weeks because it "enables us to respond to customer queries about any text message service issues".

The admission comes in the wake of revelations that soccer star David Beckham sent salacious text messages to his former assistant Rebecca Loos and Perth model Sarah Marbeck.

In Australia, Telstra was storing text messages for up to 28 days "for the sake of resending failed messages and customer bill reconciliation". The system was designed to store the messages for that length of time.
