THE BRAVE new world of genetic testing seems likely to create an insurance underclass as disgruntled - if not as diverse - as the rapidly ageing population.

The Human Rights Commission is revisiting guidelines it issued 10 years ago to help insurers avoid falling foul of the provisions of the then ground-breaking Human Rights Act, which took away insurers' right to refuse life cover on the grounds of race, religion, gender or age.

Commission lawyer Sylvia Bell said the review would explore human rights issues that had come into prominence since then, including genetic testing.

But some insurers are already asking those who have had genetic testing done to hand over the results, although ...
