PRIVATE HOSPITALS are offering caesareans for up to $10,000, reflecting growing demand from what some call the "too posh to push" brigade.

Auckland's MercyAscot Hospital started offering the service last year.

It is the start of a new trend in which mothers can choose to have their babies surgically, without having to cite medical reasons as required in the public system.

Bookings for private caesareans at the Auckland hospital are made for Friday mornings - when no other surgery is scheduled.
