Right-wing Swiss People's Party withdraws from government
GENEVA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The right-wing Swiss People's
Partywithdrew from Switzerland's coalition government Thursday, one
dayafter the failure of key party figure Christoph Blocher to win re-
election to the cabinet.
This move threatens to increase political instability in the
country as it broke a traditional government formation that has
existed for nearly 50 years, the local Swissinfo website reported.
Since 1959, Swiss cabinet ministers have been chosen from
amongthe four leading parties, including the Swiss People's Party,
the Radicals, the Social Democrats and the Christian Democrats.
