Leaders of two Protestant denominations that have entered into a
working partnership say members will be encouraged to worship
together, but local congregations will maintain their own identities.
About 6,000 delegates to the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) General Assembly agreed last week to enter into full
communion, including mutual recognition of members and clergy, with
the United Church of Christ.
The resolution means the two churches will recognize each other's
members as joint believers in a common faith and will make an effort
to coordinate their social services, missionary work and community
functions, said Paul Crow Jr., president of the Council on Christian
Unity.
