Article: Man with cash register run over

WELLINGTON -- A unemployed Wellington man was run over while trying to escape with a stolen cash register, the Wellington District Court was told.

Hone Rankin Daniels, who turned 19 yesterday, pleaded guilty to unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, theft, dangerous driving, and driving with excess breath alcohol.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Marc May said that on November 18 last year, Daniels was the driver of a car stolen from outside a block of apartments where he lived.

About 6.30pm, Daniels and a friend drove to a dairy in Mount Victoria suburb.

While he waited in the car, the friend ran into the dairy and grabbed the shop cash register.

It was valued at $1000 and contained $252 ...
