Sir--Kate Williman's statement (February 15) about meat industry
misuse of antibiotics doesn't bear scrutiny.
All antibiotic use in animals is under veterinary control, and in
commercial practice is too expensive to use indiscriminately.
Approximately 50 per cent of antibiotics used in New Zealand are
applied to animals. Rough calculations show that there are about 17
times as many domestic animals as humans in this country, and about
21 times as much animal body ...
