The Washington Bullets yesterday announced that 6-foot-11 center
Mel Turpin has signed a contract and will be in training camp, which
begins the first week in October. The big question-and at this
point, it's a very big question-is how much of Turpin will be there.
The Bullets say Turpin weighs 275 pounds. They also say it's too
much.
"We are happy Mel decided to join the Bullets," General Manager
Bob Ferry said in a statement. "He will be going through an extensive
training program for approximately the next six weeks. If he is
successful, Mel could be a big asset to the Bullets."
