Gray skies and record low temperatures chilled the Washington
area yesterday, damping demand for ice and electricity and limiting
the appeal of such summertime stand-bys as picnic lunches in the
park.
But many trips to the beach, planned when yesterday's high
temperature of 69 degrees here might have seemed little more than
fantasy, were made despite the weather.
"When you're on vacation, it doesn't matter," said Debbie Derry
at Rehoboth Beach, Del. "The rain doesn't bother us. We're here to
have a good time."
