Dr Wilson feels a personal sense of loss at the demise of the
National Bank building and the Civic Theatre. The loss of old
Christchurch buildings furnished John Wilson with material for a book
in 1984. Nearly 20 years later, he is writing a sequel to Lost
Christchurch.
Dr Wilson continues to be alarmed by the disappearance of old
buildings. Since his job with the Historic Places Trust ended, in a
management reshuffle in June, he at last has the time to work on the
second book.
This, and three other books on Canterbury history, led to him
winning the inaugural award of the A. C. Rhodes History Medal.
Dr Wilson has lived most of his life in and around Christchurch.
