Article: Rostenkowski Heckled By Senior Citizens; `Catastrophic-Illness' Cost Increase Protested

A crowd of about 100 senior citizens, angry over increased costs for catastrophic-illness benefits from Medicare, today jeered House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.) and briefly blocked his car from leaving a meeting in the heart of his home district.

The senior citizens, who had earlier voted not to boo Rostenkowski if he agreed to speak with them, stormed after him when he refused to address them, shouting "Liar, liar," "Chicken, chicken" and "We won't forget at election time."

The incident occured after a private, 90-minute meeting with representatives of six senior-citizen groups at the Copernicus Center in the center of the Northwest Side Chicago district ...
