It's an insight into a gentler New Zealand so rarely seen in these
busy times -- a herd of quiet Highland cattle taken on a day's ramble
to their summer-grazing pasture. Thick ribbons of opalescent cloud
slide along the steep flanks of the sinewy Banks Peninsula hills as
the ragged line of cattle, drovers, and a dog begin their journey
over the hills and far away.
Eleven lassies and a braw laddie are taking the high road again
for their annual 25km trek to temporary summer pastures in Cooptown.
No horses, no trucks, few if any, fusses.
