Whitby, nestled on England's north-eastern coastline is a gem, but
DOREEN BATCHELOR discovers it's best to double-check bus timetables.
I f Whitby and its famous abbey ruins are on your itinerary, don't
believe everything the petite blonde in the Visitor Information
office tells you.
The A169 winding across the North York Moors is a spectacular
drive.
As our tour coach approaches Whitby, all eyes are on the striking
silhouette of the abbey. Visible from kilometres away on its
commanding position overlooking the harbour, the eerie outline
dominates the skyline.
Arriving in town, I call at the Information Office and discover
