New Zealanders who have lost millions in a New York currency
swindle may be closer to recovering some of their money after a
guilty plea from one of those involved.
Brian Pasqualini, a former broker at defunct Evergreen
International Spot Trading Inc, has admitted in a New York court that
he helped the currency trading firm cheat 1400 investors of $US110
million ($NZ209.20 million).
The victims span 14 countries, and include 100 to 120 New
Zealanders who are reported to have lost over $45m in the racket.
According to a New Zealand investigator, Mark Van Leewarden, about
$12m of the lost money frozen in Switzerland and the United States is
