Cast your eyes around an older urban section or a well-
established rural property: there may be nutritional treasures
scattered at your feet.
You will recognise them by their familiar packaging - oval-
shaped, brown cases, wrinkled and woody, yielding only reluctantly to
those who would plunder their contents.
Walnuts are one of the healthiest and most energy-packed foods
available. They contain between 65 and 70 per cent oil, mostly in the
form of unsaturated fatty acids.
Walnut oil produced in New Zealand is cold-pressed and pure.
Imported oils, however, may be more highly processed.
Fresh walnut oil has a nutty taste, is a delicate, yellow colour,
and is very nutritious.
