Article: New rink would cost $8m

Christchurch could support a second ice rink but the $8 million cost of building one is more than originally estimated, an economic feasibility study shows.

The Queen Elizabeth II Park Ice Stadium Trust has been pushing since 1998 for a new Olympic-sized ice arena with seating for up to 1000 spectators to be built on land next to QEII.

The trust, which includes representatives from all the major ice sports, is concerned about the inability of Christchurch's existing ice rink to accommodate greater numbers and believes a second rink is warranted.

That belief now appears to be backed by a feasibility study which it commissioned with financial assistance from the Christchurch City Council. ...
