Article: CDHB in gun over car-park

The Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) has been called to account for a decision to raid its health services budget and build a $4m staff car-park without Ministry of Health approval.

The ministry has asked for a full explanation of why the board approved the expenditure, which was not included in a plan signed off by Cabinet. The rather testy exchange was revealed in documents attached to an agenda for yesterday's board meeting.

In a bid to meet concerns that the money should have gone to health services, the board agreed to charge hospital staff $12 a week to use the 430-space car-park in a bid to pay it off.
