Bowing to political inevitability, Fred Bush yesterday withdrew
from consideration for the post of ambassador to Luxembourg after
Senate Democrats and White House officials joined in sending him a
clear message that he could not get confirmed.
The White House made no official announcement and Fred Bush did
not accept phone calls, but senior White House officials said Bush,
former deputy chief of staff and major fund-raiser for then-Vice
President Bush, withdrew from consideration in a session with the
president yesterday.
