A false rape complaint tied up five police officers over three
days, the Christchurch District Court has been told.
Nicole McKay, 18, who admitted a charge of making a false
statement, was discharged without conviction by Judge Colin Doherty
on payment of $1458 reparation for wasting police time.
The judge said the case was serious because it not only wasted
police time but also affected others who might have genuine
complaints.
Prosecutor Graham Capill said McKay and a female friend had
socialised with two men on October 23, and McKay later made a
complaint to the police that she had been raped in a public toilet.
The accused man told police he had sex with McKay, but it was
consensual.
