JUDE PETHERAM is overwhelmed by the crowds at Monet's garden in
Giverny.
A fter years of reading the books, seeing the pictures and
listening to other people's reports about Monet's famous garden at
Giverny on the outskirts of Paris, my visit was truly an anticlimax.
The journey began not in Paris but with reading a delightful book
to my daughters for many years, Linnea in Monet's Garden, where a
young girl and her elderly friend travel from England to Paris to see
Monet's garden and stay at the historic Hotel Esmeralda.
A bit of searching on the internet proved that Hotel Esmeralda
does exist, just as described in the book, but does not take bookings
over the internet, merci. Instead, ...
