It is not true what Sue Allen writes -- that capital gains tax is
levied on house sales in the UK (Dec 10).
I recently sold my house in Scotland, where my wife and I lived
for 27 years. We received 11 times the price we paid in 1977 and did
not pay a penny in capital gains, and that applies to all house
sales.
It is possible to pay capital gains if the house has more than an
acre of land, but if the extra land is required ...
