The new, improved version of the Black Panther will be on show at
Ellerslie tomorrow.
The Pukekohe galloper will race in blinkers for the first time in
the $600,000 Mercedes New Zealand Derby (2400m) -- and will be
significantly fitter than when beaten by Derby favourite Wahid at his
last start.
"Wahid might have improved too, but I know my horse (Black
Panther) has, most definitely," trainer Richard Yuill said yesterday.
"If he improves as much as I think he will, you will see a different
horse on Saturday.
"He was always going to need the run (in the Championship Stakes
at Ellerslie). He had 12 days off after the Great Northern Guineas,
and all he had before Ellerslie was a 1600m race.
