P icture this: 500 entries in Cuisine magazine's Champion of Cheeses awards resulted in two tonnes of cheese being uncrated, identified by number, cross referenced to entry details, sorted into categories and set before the judges. A daunting task but one that delighted master judge of the awards John Greeley.

Greeley, chairman of the American Cheese Society awards committee, was in New Zealand for his third year as master judge of the New Zealand awards.

He saw the number of entries (and tonnes of cheese) as a strong indication New Zealand's cheesemakers are now taking the awards seriously.
