New Zealand soldiers sprayed with Agent Orange in Vietnam suffered
three times the genetic damage of those present during nuclear tests
at Mururoa Atoll, a new study says.
The first New Zealand investigation into the effects of the Agent
Orange defoliant has confirmed veterans' worst fears -- that they and
their subsequent children were harmed by the spray.
A Massey University study of 25 former soldiers exposed to the
toxic herbicide 30 years ago recommends further studies be done after
it found significant levels of genetic damage.
Canterbury Returned Services Association secretary Patrick Duggan
said the report confirmed what veterans and their families had known
for decades.
