Auckland City was predictably outclassed by African champion Al
Ahly in the Club World Cup yesterday, but the battling 0-2 loss had
won New Zealand soccer plenty of kudos, said New Zealand Soccer boss
Graham Seatter.
The amateurs from the New Zealand Football Championships made the
Egyptian stars work hard for their victory and it took two stunning
second-half strikes from Flavino and Mohamed Aboutrika to subdue
Auckland.
"It was a tough day out for them, but they battled hard," said the
NZS chief executive who witnessed the match at Toyota City early
yesterday morning. "They defended well, but there was a gap, as
should be expected."
