Beach Towel turned in the fastest time for a 2-year-old pacing
colt on a five-eighths-mile track this year by winning the $335,325
Presidential in 1:53 3/5 last night at Rosecroft Raceway. The time
was a fifth of a second off the world record.
In the $167,825 First Lady, Yankee Goddess paced to an impressive
victory in 1:55 3/5.
In the Presidential, Ray Remmen passed up a chance to tuck Beach
Towel in along the rail early in the race, instead surging toward the
lead with the colt. Remmen said he knew Beach Towel was the best
colt in the race and by racing in the lead he could avoid traffic
problems.
