Christchurch's PGG Wrightson has bought AgCentral, a North Island farm supplies business.

The listed rural services firm yesterday announced the purchase of the farm supplies business serving 118 co- operative members of Tatua Co- Operative Dairy Co.

Chief executive Barry Brook said the purchase, for an undisclosed price, came ahead a number of other prospective purchases. Besides being a purchase, it signalled a partnership between PGG Wrightson and Tatua, based around the processing site in Tatuanui, near Morrinsville.

PGG Wrightson had no intention of entering the milk processing sector, as signalled by meat processor Affco earlier in the week, Brook said.
